Exposure 2010 is an annual event that utilizes the skills and talents of Eastern Michigan University students and faculty members from five different programs and two colleges. They are Apparel Textiles and Merchandising, Communication and Theatre, Communication Technology, Hospitality and Restaurant Management,Simulation and Gaming.
The students in these class work together to design, develop and produce this event beginning in January . The concept, the graphics, the PR, the funding, the recruitment of designers, models, and the additional crew to help host and run the are planned and managed by the students.
Under the tutelage of assistant professor Cathryn Amidie, the first annual Crossing Lines Design Expo is a companion event that was thought of and designed and produced by students and faculty within the Communication and Theatre Department, and an exhibition was created as a demonstration of the quality, and variety of excellent design work that is used and practiced at EMU.
At the beginning of the show we get our three guest designers Exotic City Shoes and Apparel where Ricco Seatt's who over a period of three years has gradually set themselves apart from other retail stores. they sale both clothing and shoes off the rack, they specialize in designing custom-made shoes for men, women, and children.
Another guest artist LaTonya Henderson who has created jewelry has been her passion for years. 20 years later Henderson creates Morning Joy creations was born were she specializes in Swarovski crystals and sterling silver. Each pice is hand-made in her home base studio created for special events or everyday glamour.
our last guest designer of the evening was a two sister duo Crystal and Catherine who are clearly influenced by the trends of today and tomorrow are the new trendsetter, before the bedazzler was invented this sister team invented C&C would attach rhinestone and beads to shoes and clothes. When Crystal and Catherine could not find jewelry to pull off their designs they begin to create earings and necklace line called Uniquely Charmed.
Soon after the guest designers showcased their line on the runway Joshua Kennedy one of the models in the fashion show was wearing a brown three-piece suit from Exotic City as he strolled down the runway to lady Gaga's paparazzi. Kennedy a freshman here at EMU began his modeling career at 16 year-old. His first major work was in Old Navy's 2008 model exposure in Chicago, IL.
As Kennedy was getting ready for his runway show he was a little nervous but it made him anticipate the excitement of the audience helped him gain his composure. "As I was walking from being the stage i was more so disappointed that it was a stage and not a runway, but other than that I had a great time and enjoyed watching the designers put the last finishing touches on the models clothing," said Kennedy.
Melody Murdock a graduating senior in Apparel Textile and Merchandising program created the "Midnight Moonlight" was the winner for the ready to wear collection and best promising senior designer.
The Exposure 2010 Runway Show expo was held from pm., the VIP reception started at 5:30 with the runway show beginning at 7 the ticket prices where seven dollars for student 10 dollars for general admission, and 25 dollars for VIP seating.
